The 16th Triennial Congress of the International Diabetes Federation received nearly 3000 abstracts from more that 93 countries. The meeting highlighted the global interest in diabetes and in cardiovascular complications associated with the disease. The programme for the meeting was designed to integrate basic and clinical science and provided an avenue for discussion of good clinical practice based on current knowledge.
